Denis McFadden has spent his career doing things the hair industry said couldn’t be done.
He started with scissors and a vision most people thought was too simple to work. No appointments. No colour. Just great haircuts, delivered by hairdressers who actually got a lunch break, finished on time, and could swap a shift without losing their livelihood.
That idea became Just Cuts. Today it’s a network of 230 salons across Australia, New Zealand, Canada and India, and one of the most quietly successful franchise businesses this country has ever produced.
Quietly, because Denis never made much noise about it. While the rest of the industry was chasing glamour, he was building systems, looking after his people, and changing what a career in hairdressing could actually look like.
His new book, Just Cuts: The Power of Showing Up, tells that story for the first time. It’s the story of a boy from Campbelltown who found his way into the centre of the global hair world, worked alongside legends of the industry, and then came home and built something that outlasted all of them.
